A Basic Dragon Group Ritual

This ritual is based on the accumulated ideas of many people, but has been written in this form by written in this form by Sunbird Shaman.

Purpose:
The basis of many Dragon rituals is a simple structure that we have developed to be clear, intuitive and easy to understand for those new to ritual.

The Basic Dragon Group Ritual is ideal for public work but is powerful enough to be useful for any ecomagic. This ritual needs no leader, and we rarely have anyone acting as 'High Priest/ess'. Everyone is equal in this circle and everyone is involved.

We have been using this ritual structure for nearly 10 years, so it has the accumulated power of repetition.

Outline Introduction:
Before starting carefully explain exactly what is going to happen and why. Those who are new to ritual will feel more comfortable, and those more experienced will be clearer about the process.

Grounding:
Start with the moving meditation based on the Dragon Rune

Opening the Circle:
Take the wand and pass it sunwise (clockwise) round to circle from one person to the next. As the object comes to you visualize a cord of light passing with it round the circle.

Some people may want to hold the wand for a little while: Be patient, as this is a good indication that the circle will be strong and focused.

Once the wand has completed the circuit of the group, the circle is cast.

Inviting the elements:
Everyone turns to the North.

"By the Winter Night's dark sanctuary, by the stars guiding light, by the deep and fruitful Earth, I call upon the powers of the North and the Element Earth, hear my voice, add your power to mine and bring the qualities of courage and steadfastness to this circle. Welcome!"

Everyone turns to the East.

"By the bright enlivening Spring Morning, by the whispering Breeze, by the rising Sun, I call upon the powers of the East and the Element Air, hear my voice, add your power to mine and bring the qualities of clear thought and intellect to this circle. Welcome!"

Everyone turns to the South.

"By the Heat of the Summer Sun, by the passionate fire of creation, by the warm hearth, I call upon the powers of the South and the Element Fire, hear my voice, add your power to mine and bring the quality of emotional balance to this circle. Welcome!"

Everyone turns to the West.

"By the cool Autumn Evening, by the raging Sea, by the wisdom of the land of the Dead, I call upon the powers of the West and the Element Water, hear my voice, add your power to mine and bring the qualities of intuition and understanding. Welcome!"

Everyone turns to the centre, with invoker facing North.

"Focus on the sky, Spirits of the heights. Focus on the ground, spirits of the depths. Shake rattle in the centre, Hear this my voice, focus your power into this sacred space. Welcome!"

Raising Power:
Draw the Dragon rune on the ground and circle round it chanting the Dragon Rune chant, focusing on filling the sacred circle with an immense amount of energy. When the energy is raised dedicate it to a specific purpose.

The fire breathing dragon technique
All hold hands and close eyes, breath in the energy, as much as is possible, count to five and all jump to face the outside and blow it out to it's task. The rest will follow.

Closing the Circle:
All face North.

All face West.

All face South.

All face East.

All face centre, with invoker facing North.

"Focus on the sky Spirits of the heights. Focus on the ground, spirits of the depths. Focus on the centre, thank you for hearing my voice, thank you for focusing your power into this sacred space. Go in power!"

Pass the wand anti-clockwise around the circle from person to person, each person as they receive it visualising it taking back the cord of light.

Finish with a cheer an hug!

Take time after the ritual to properly ground yourselves. This especially important if you are working with inexperienced people. Sharing food and listening to how people felt about the ritual is very valuable.
