St. David's Wood is a beautiful ancient forest on the riverbank at
Blackwood, in Gwent, South Wales. It's currently being trashed by Costain and Laing for a 2 mile road to Oakdale Industrial Park and the NORDAM aircraft repair base there. This is basically a factory building hi- tech parts for bombers and fighter planes.

The wood has lots of wildlife, some of it already endangered: There are buzzards, bats, owls, dormice and maybe badgers. The road was contested at public inquiry and has been campaigned against for ten years. The case is currently in the European Court and UK legal action continues.

The photograph on the left shows part of the route - all these trees will be gone - unless we stop it.

Direct Action at blackwood happening most days if there are enough people. Some days there just aren't enough campaigners to stop work, so more trees are cut down. You can make a difference!

The bank on the right of this photo was covered with trees. Now it's bare earth, waiting for tarmac.

Or maybe it will be replanted..

destruction at Blackwood

"When we stand in awe before these giant and majestic trees, we realise that they are as much a part of a nations cultural heritage as are outstanding buildings, paintings, sculpture and other artistic works, and that it is therefore, our duty and responsibility to protect them for posterity."

From 'The Guide to Trees'. This is posted onto one of the Blackwood trees.

Poems on the trees
Local people have pinned poems onto the trees to express their feelings about the wood.

Local support for the campaign is amazing. Locals are doing direct action, helping with legal work and providing supplies and food.

Moral is pretty high and numbers seem to be rising, but the next two weeks look like being make or break, so if you can get there make it soon.

The magic is strong and this feels like the next turn of the spiral. It's been a few years since the last big round of road building, and now is the time for the tribes to gather again and fight for the Land.

We can win this if we act now!

There are camps on-site with walk-ways in the trees and more defenses being created everyday. Everyone is really lovely and friendly, and they would love to meet you! Stopping work isn't hard if we have the numbers. There is defensive work to do too, so if you don't fancy trying to stop work you could be building barricades etc.

Defensive Netting
Walk-ways and netting help to defend the trees.

If you can't get there, send some magical support. Several campaigners have Dragon Rune talismans and it's scrawled on the defensive bunker we made.

You can send post to the camp at:

Blackwood Protest Site, Woodfield Park, Halls Crossing, Woodfield Side, Blackwood, Caerphilly, NP12 0PF.
