Although we invite the Elements to our rituals, and our lives depend on them, they are rarely formally celebrated, but the annual Element Festivals are your opportunity to change that! Each Element now has its own Festival every year, a time to honour and celebrate its power and our relationship with it. Individuals and groups can mark each Festival with rituals, create artwork, have a party or just enjoy that particular Element. You're especially encouraged to work on a related environmental issue:
* On the Festival of Air you might work for easing air pollution or improving human communication in some troubled part of the world.
* The Festival of Fire can be marked with work on energy conservation or global warming.
* On the Festival of Water you could raise money for a water charity or clean up a local stream or well.
* The Festival of Earth can be celebrated by promoting composting schemes or doing conservation work.
The possibilities of how we might mark these occasions are as huge as our imaginations!
Dates for the Element Festivals are seasonally relevant to one of the four Western Elements in the UK: If you don't live in the UK or somewhere with a similar seasonal climate, think about dates that would suit your local ecosystem. This is intended to create a deeper connection to Air, Fire, Water and Earth where you live, so take time to sense what's appropriate.
The 2008 dates for the UK are:
The Festival of Air - Spring: Sunday February 24th.
The Festival of Fire - Summer: Sunday May 25th.
The Festival of Water - Autumn: August 17th.
The Festival of Earth - Winter: Sunday November 23rd.
The Elemental Festivals are focused on these dates, but feel free to celebrate a few days either side.
